For experienced experts & founder-led businesses

Your work is valuable. It shouldn’t be this hard to explain or sell.

I help experienced experts and founder-led service businesses turn years of expertise into a clear position, compelling offer and client journey, so the right people understand why they should work with you.

For people who know their work creates value, but feel their business still doesn’t communicate it clearly.

The problem

You know you’re good at what you do.

People who have worked with you know it too. The harder part is helping someone who doesn’t already know you understand why your work matters.

Maybe someone asks: “So what exactly do you do?”

And your answer is technically correct, but still doesn’t quite capture it.

  • Maybe your work has evolved beyond the labels you started with.
  • Maybe your offer has become broad because there are genuinely many ways you can help.
  • Maybe your website explains what you do, but doesn’t make the right person think: “This is exactly what I need.”
  • Maybe referrals work because the people referring you already understand your value, but when someone discovers you cold, they don’t always see what those people see.

So you keep explaining.

Rewriting.

Refining.

Wondering whether the problem is your niche, your offer, your website or your marketing.

The real issue may be that too much of your value still lives inside your head.

The hidden gap

When valuable expertise becomes difficult to buy.

Years of experience give you something that is difficult to put into a neat sentence.

Judgement.

Pattern recognition.

Nuance.

A way of seeing problems that other people may not see.

You know why your approach is different. Your prospective client doesn’t. And that gap shows up in the business.

  • Your explanation changes depending on who asks.
  • Your services become a list of everything you can do.
  • Your website describes methods and credentials, while the client is left to work out why any of it matters.

You hear…

What you hear

“That sounds interesting.”

What you want to hear

“This is exactly the kind of help I’ve been looking for.”

  • Referrals praise you, but struggle to explain exactly who should come to you.
  • Sales conversations spend too much time explaining the work.
  • Pricing becomes harder to hold because the buyer cannot clearly see what they are buying.

The quality of your work may be high. The business just isn’t making that value obvious yet.

Visibility versus clarity

If ten times more people saw your business tomorrow…

Would ten times more of the right people understand why they should work with you?

If the answer is no, visibility may not be the first problem. The first problem may be clarity. Clarity about…

  • Who gets the greatest value from your work.
  • What problem you are really helping them solve.
  • What they are actually buying.
  • Why your approach is different.
  • What they should do next.

More attention cannot compensate for an offer people don’t understand.

On nuance

“But my work really is nuanced.”

It probably is. The answer isn’t to strip away that nuance. The goal is not to explain everything you know.

The goal is to help the right person understand enough to think…

  • “This person understands what I’m dealing with.”
  • “They see this differently.”
  • “I want to talk to them.”

Clarity does not mean oversimplifying your work. It means knowing what the client needs to understand first.

The shift

From expertise people respect to an offer people want to buy.

Imagine someone discovering your business and understanding it quickly. They recognise the problem. They understand what you help change. They see why your approach is different. They know what the next step is.

You no longer spend half the conversation explaining what you do. The right client arrives already thinking…

“This person understands my problem.”

Your referrals become easier. Your sales conversations become more focused. Your website begins doing some of the explaining before you enter the room. You spend less time convincing and more time determining fit. That can mean…

  • More relevant enquiries.
  • Stronger referrals.
  • Fewer poor-fit conversations.
  • More confidence in your pricing.
  • Clearer sales conversations.
  • Easier marketing.
  • A business that better reflects the calibre of your work.

Your expertise hasn’t changed. The way people understand, trust and buy it has.

Portrait of Debbie Han

I know this problem from the inside

I’ve had to answer these questions for my own business, too.

I started by selling my own expertise, then grew that into a human-centered design agency with teams in Singapore and China. As the business evolved, I faced the same question many experienced experts eventually face:

How do you turn everything you know and everything you can do into something people can understand and buy?

For more than 25 years, I’ve worked across human-centered design, product strategy, UX, innovation and digital transformation, helping organisations understand people, clarify value and turn complex ideas into experiences people can act on.

Today, I apply that same thinking to expert-led businesses.

The engagement

That’s the work we do together.

The Expertise-to-Offer Sprint

A focused strategic engagement for experienced practitioners whose expertise has become deeper than the way their business currently communicates it. Together, we turn what is currently intuitive, broad or difficult to explain into a clearer:

Position Best-fit client Offer Message Client journey Client-facing landing page

The landing page is one visible output. The real value is the clarity underneath it.

Recent work: Nature’s Intelligence Kinesiology

What this looked like for one practitioner.

Li-Anne had more than 20 years of experience and a deeply individualised body of work. The problem wasn’t her expertise. It was making that expertise understandable to someone outside her field without reducing the work to simplistic marketing language.

So before thinking about her website, we worked through:

  • What does Li-Anne really do?
  • What is the deeper value?
  • Who is most likely to value it?
  • What makes her approach distinct?
  • What does someone need to understand before they are ready to speak with her?

That thinking became the strategic foundation for Nature’s Intelligence Kinesiology. The website was the visible result. Underneath it sat:

Positioning Client definition Differentiation Messaging Offer design Client journey Trust A clear path to action

The real change

The website wasn’t the real transformation.

Before, much of Li-Anne’s value lived inside her experience. After, that value had structure and language.

  • Her expertise became easier to understand.
  • Her methods were connected to outcomes clients cared about.
  • Her best-fit clients could recognise themselves.
  • Her offer had a clearer entry point.
  • Referrals had somewhere useful to send people.
  • And future marketing no longer had to start with: “How do we explain what Li-Anne actually does?”

That is the kind of foundation I want to create with the next practitioners I work with.

What you leave with

Not just a page. A foundation.

  • Expertise Extraction

Make your tacit knowledge easier to articulate.

  • Value-Loss Diagnostic

See where potential clients are currently missing the value.

  • Best-Fit Client Definition

Know who is most likely to value and buy the work.

  • Positioning

Clarify what you want to be known for and why you are different.

  • Offer Architecture

Turn your expertise into something easier to evaluate and buy.

  • Messaging System

Create language you can reuse across the business.

  • Client Journey

Create a clearer path from discovery to enquiry.

  • Conversion Landing Page

Bring everything together into a client-facing experience.

  • Referral Language

Make it easier for people to know whom to send your way.

  • Founder Messaging

Know what to say when someone asks, “What do you do?”

Who this is for

This is probably for you if…

You know your work creates real value, but your business hasn’t fully caught up with the depth of the work.

  • You find yourself explaining what you do differently depending on who asks.
  • Your offer feels broader than it should.
  • Your website feels accurate but not compelling.
  • You rely heavily on word-of-mouth.
  • People who know you get it. People who don’t often need more explanation.
  • And you don’t want louder marketing.

You want your value to become easier to recognise.

Who it’s not for

This probably isn’t for you if…

  • You’re still deciding what work you want to do.
  • You don’t yet have meaningful client experience to draw from.
  • You mainly want a prettier website.
  • You want clever copy without examining the offer underneath it.
  • Or you want aggressive marketing and exaggerated promises.

Three engagements

I’m opening three paid engagements.

I want to work closely with up to three experienced experts and founder-led service businesses whose work is valuable but difficult to explain. I’ll be personally involved in the diagnosis, positioning, offer, messaging, client journey and landing page.

I’m deliberately keeping this small while I develop the engagement through the next three client projects.

Where to start

Your work may not need to change. The way people understand it might.

If you’ve spent years getting better at your craft but feel your business still doesn’t communicate the value of what you do, let’s look at where the gap is. You don’t need to know whether you have a positioning problem, an offer problem, a messaging problem or a website problem.

That’s part of what we’ll work out together.
